Working with Rape and Sexual Violence

Working with Rape and Sexual Violence is divided into ten chapters; which introduce factual, lived experiences within a range of complexities that regularly surround the trauma of rape and sexual violation.

They illustrate current processes for working with clients. These can range from interventions such as talking therapies, paper exercises such as the ©Trauma Tapestry, ©Three Point Turn Around System (structured approach for working with rape and sexual violence), as well as up to date information about some of the most effective psychological processing tools, such as; EMDR (Eye movement desensitisation reprocessing), BSP (Brainspotting), Sensoriomotor Psychotherapy and VKD (Visual, Kinaesthetic Dissociation).

When someone tells you that they have been raped or sexually violated, whether as an adult or a child, it can be like being passed a box containing a fragile glass ball. They are telling you about their experience, because they trust you to hold the fragility of that glass ball with every ounce of care, understanding and kindness that you can muster. Whatever you do, be careful not to break that glass, shattering what self- worth and courage the client has bravely managed to hang on to until this point.

Working with Three Levels of Trauma

Working with Three Levels of Trauma is especially useful for those who are new to working within certain fields of trauma focused counselling, talking therapies, and support work with health professionals in general.

This book is divided into three sections, basic, intermediate and advanced levels. They introduce factual, lived experiences within a range of complexities that regularly surround various types of traumatic incident and the changing processes to work towards post traumatic growth.

They illustrate current processes and treatments for working with clients such as; EMDR (Eye movement desensitisation reprocessing), BSP (Brainspotting), Sensoriomotor Psychotherapy and the VKD (Visual, Kinaesthetic Dissociation) otherwise known as the Rewind Technique.

Any traumatic event, in which a person’s life, or integrated sense of self is threatened, can cause a posttraumatic stress reaction. After such an incident, individuals may continue to think about what has happened continually, so that it takes up valuable thinking time. It is as if the mind has been temporarily taken over, with no headspace for normal daily function.

Working with Complex Bereavement

Working with Complex Bereavement: is divided into ten chapters, which introduce factual, lived experiences within a range of complexities that regularly surround bereavement and the varying processes of grief. They illustrate current processes for working with clients.

These can range from interventions such as talking therapies, paper exercises such as the ©Bereavement Bridge, arts and crafts in terms of memory boxes and garments to information about psychological processing tools, such as; EMDR (Eye movement desensitisation reprocessing), BSP (Brainspotting), Sensoriomotor Psychotherapy, VKD (Visual, Kinaesthetic Dissociation) otherwise known as the Rewind Technique.

There is not and never will be, one distinct ‘cure all’ for the often devastating grief and shock of losing a loved one. But there are ways to assist those who are struggling, to maintain a healthy focus and growth towards acceptance. Given time for grief and mourning of a loved one, acceptance can be achieved by setting healthy grief programmes in place at a pace to suit the client.

Working with Domestic Violence and Abuse

Working with Domestic Violence and Abuse is divided into ten chapters; which introduce factual, lived experiences within a range of complexities that regularly surround the trauma of those affected by domestic violence and abuse, including coercive and controlling behaviours.

They illustrate current processes for working with clients. These can range from interventions such as talking therapies, paper exercises such as the ©Trauma Tapestry, as well as up to date information about some of the most effective psychological processing tools, such as; EMDR (Eye movement desensitisation reprocessing), BSP (Brainspotting), Sensoriomotor Psychotherapy and VKD (Visual, Kinaesthetic Dissociation).

As we learn new and effective physiological treatments for those who have been targeted by violent individuals within relationships, outcomes are now far more suited to the post traumatic growth of those affected as a whole. An understanding into the basic functioning of the adrenal glands is crucial when working in the aftermath with victims of domestic violence, giving useful insight into how the body can quickly become overloaded with stress and how the response can manifest into a myriad of illness.

Working with Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE)

Working with Adverse Childhood Experience; is divided into ten chapters that introduce factual life experiences within of a range of adverse childhood experiences. These include physical, sexual, psychological and neglect. All complexities that regularly surround unsafeguarded childhood experiences.

The book also describes the most up to date processes for working with clients. These can range from talking therapies, arts and crafts, through to psychological processing tools such as Guided Visualisation, EMDR (Eye movement dissociation reprocessing), BSP (Brainspotting), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, (VKD) Visual and Kinaesthetic Dissociation. Also known as the Rewind Technique.

Adverse childhood experiences are any situation in which a child felt unsafe, unprotected or at harm from those who they trusted. Those affected, are left to live with lifelong agony and untold misery in their adult life. Starting with psychological processing and working towards post traumatic growth, to a future without those emotional and somatic memories, is key to moving forward to a happier and more fulfilling life for the client.

Working with Narcissistic Behaviour

Working with Narcissistic Behaviour; is divided into ten chapters. Initially introducing in-depth information about narcissism, from the perspectives of both the narcissistic and the empath. It covers factual life experiences within client work.

Toxic relationships that involve narcissistic behaviours including within families, workplace settings, friendships, group environments and intimate interactions. With partners, parents, children, friends and colleagues. The information perfectly describes the most up to date processes for working with clients.

Living with a narcissist and having tolerated their covert behaviour for many years, can leave a person reeling, full of self-blame and total confusion. Often, it is not until it is pointed out blatantly obviously, that they may have been involved with a narcissist. It is only then, that healing can begin and a new wave of freedom and self-growth can really flourish.

#MeTime

#MeTime. Therapy Workbooks – psychological trauma caused by rape and sexual attacks, either current or historic can be helpful to those who aren’t ready to disclose. #MeTime is a gentle and empathic therapeutic workbook. It is full of safe and gentle exercises to take one’s time, it provides many reflective personal journal note pages for readers to ponder over, past present and future. This means that the workbook can be used within any therapeutic setting whether with a professional or on one’s own. Journaling is well known for allowing the safe release of emotional pain, expression and writing down thoughts and feelings. In today’s often, sick and twisted culture, where rape and sexual violation of adults and children has become the norm in many avenues of the media. Where #metoo and other such horror filled threads, take over social media on a daily basis, we hear, we see and we watch the worst heart breaking stories unfold, however, the most important people can be so easily missed; those who have been so profoundly affected, those who never disclose to the police or to anyone. Trapped in a world of isolation those affected souls can slowly become depressed, anxious and alone. Many only leave their place of safety in an attempt to find solace by self-medicating with alcohol, illegal drugs and/or over the counter drugs in an attempt to dull their pain, at further cost to their physical wellbeing.

Deeper Down
Guided Visualisation for Everyday Therapy

Guided Visualisation Trauma Therapy Resources. This trauma, therapy book of everyday scripts for guided visualisation; has been collated from over two decades of working with some of life’s difficulties. Often, clients attending for general counselling just need a way to feel calm and grounded. Being able to guide clients through a journey to a place of safety, when all they feel around them is danger, can really make a difference to their day to day functioning.

The ability to be able to visualise a time or position whereby we can change the way things turned out, or to be able to view a situation from a different perspective, can be life changing for many. At the very least, it can defuse a heightened sense of alert (hypervigilance) and teach new and helpful tools. Lessening the increased state of anxiety, which is the cause of excessive exhaustion and panic.

I have spoken with many therapists over the years who state that they don’t feel skilled or capable with using such an effective tool with their clients. This is just not the reality. A client who has become used to and has built up trust with a therapist’s voice, in whatever capacity that may be. For anyone who works closely and regularly with clients, they can become a voice of safety and reassurance. Who better to read a safe and restorative guided visualisation, to those in need of such solace?
